Loon Lake

Loon Lake is a unique lake in northern Chippewa County. A small shallow lake, it is located in the Blue Diamond Recreation Area. Formed 14,000 years ago during the retreat of the last major Wisconsin glacier, it is not far from the Chippewa Moraine Ice Age State Recreation Area, situated along the Ice Age National Scenic Trail.

Because of its uniqueness and size, it is not well suited to many recreational activities. Too small and weed choked for boating, and too shallow for fish survival, Loon Lake has seen relatively little human activity or development, with only 10 cabins and a small private campground on its shores.

Recently a large portion of the shoreline has been purchased by a hi-density developer, who is offering many small lake property lots for sale. Current lakeshore owners of Loon Lake want anyone considering purchasing one of these newly offered lots to learn more about this fragile and shallow lake before deciding if this is the right lake for them.
